We hiked through the valley of Viñales. This 'red soil' area (high content of iron oxide) is known for its karst landscape encircled by mountains and dotted with spectacular limestone outcrops (mogotes). The finest quality tobacco for Cuban cigars and other crops are cultivated on the bottom of the fertile valley, mostly by traditional agriculture techniques.
