In August 2017, we visited the impressive and romantic city of Venice, the islands Burano and Murano in the lagoon of Venice, and Verona (Romeo and Julia) in Italy. Highlights include the historic canals (Grand Canal) and bridges (Ponte di Rialto) in Venice, Piazza San Marco, Basilica San Marco, Doge's Palace, Burano (known for its lace work and coloured houses), Murano (famous for its glassmaking), and Verona (Casa di Giulietta).
Although August is the 'European' holiday season, we managed to find the less crouwded places. Furthermore, it can be very hot (mostly blue skies) and humid (because of the many canals) in Venice during this period. You can beat the crowd before 10:00 am and after 17:00 pm (e.g. it was very quite at Piazza San Marco around 08:30 am).
